5 Reasons Why Annual Exams with Primary Care Doctors Are Important

In network doctors

No matter your age, gender or stage of life, annual physical exams are essential to your lifelong health. Here are five reasons why you should schedule your annual physical, TODAY:

  1. Assess your overall health. Depending on your current risk factors, age, lifestyle and family history, primary care doctors can order blood tests and other screenings to help identify underlying conditions – even if you’re NOT experiencing any symptoms. Getting these results helps your primary care physician (PCP) make recommendations for follow-up tests or visits with specialists. Suggestions may be made about how to modify your lifestyle, exercise or diet to improve your health.
  2. Update vaccinations. PCPs make sure you’re on track for any vaccinations needed based on exposure, environment or age.
  3. Screen for cancers. According to recent news reports, colorectal cancer is now the leading cause of death among young adults with cancer, particularly for those under the age of 40. It is so important to visit with your PCP who knows your family history, age and other risk factors. PCPs can recommend the best cancer screenings for you.
  4. Update medical records. This is the perfect opportunity to let your PCP know about any changes in allergies, medications, mental health and family history.
  5. Establish a relationship with the PCP. They are your healthcare partner. An annual physical exam is a great way to get to know them more and they know you better. During these visits, their goal is to focus on your overall wellness and preventive care to remain healthy.
