If you use Brookshire Grocery Pharmacies to fill prescriptions, Walgreens’ recent purchase of the chain will affect you. The Brookshire pharmacies included in the buyout are Super 1 and Brookshire Fresh pharmacies in Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas. (Note: Brookshire Brothers pharmacies were not included in the sale.)
While most impacted pharmacies are being converted to Walgreens, a few of the locations will close. The pharmacy likely has or soon will, contact you directly if you are currently getting medicines at a location that is closing. Prescriptions at closing pharmacies will be transferred to a nearby Walgreens retail pharmacy.
Based on your previous Brookshire pharmacies medication fills, here are changes you may experience:
30-day Fills
- 30-day fills at a Brookshire pharmacy converting to Walgreens, continue to use Walgreens pharmacy
- 30-day fills from a Brookshire pharmacy that is closing, prescriptions automatically transfer to a nearby Walgreens
90-day Fills
- If getting 90-day fills from a Brookshire pharmacy converting to Walgreens, you will not be able to receive a 90-day fill from the Walgreens pharmacy
- You may choose to transfer to another network pharmacy for 90-day prescriptions or switch to mail order
NOTE: The cost could change for 30 and 90-day medications. You may choose to transfer your prescriptions to a convenient FirstChoice network pharmacy which could be more cost-effective.
