Got a “Website Blocked” Message When Searching Certain Content?

TS page blocked

Technology Solutions will soon release a different auto-response message when attempting to open restricted content while working on the City’s network. Restricted content covers adult material pertaining to sex, violence, gambling, illegal activities, personal or confidential information, and others. This new “Website Blocked” landing page alerts users to the fact that access to some websites is not allowed per Plano’s URL Filtering Policy.

The categories of websites currently blocked by the City’s firewall parameters are not changing. However, the appearance of the pop-up message users will see when trying to access a forbidden URL has been customized. The new landing page includes these details:

  • User
  • URL in question
  • Category of the prohibited webpage

Users can opt to create a Help Desk ticket if the website trying to be reached is necessary for work. The reformatted Website Blocked landing site looks like this:TS website blocked image

Technology Solutions constantly monitors our City network firewall to protect the organization from malicious cybersecurity breaches. Some of the URLs being flagged relate to phishing, adult content, malware and a list of others. All Team Plano members must be responsible network users.

Check out our Internet, Social Media and Email Policy in the City’s Policies and Procedures Manual (223.00) to review the organization’s standards.

Contact the Technology Solutions security team at Security@plano.gov if you have questions.
