Neighborhood Services Earns National and State Honors

Neighborhood Srvc AACE accreditation

During the September 12 City Council Meeting, City Council acknowledged the renewal of Plano's American Association of Code Enforcement (AACE) accreditation. Within Neighborhood Services, the Property Standards team operates at the highest level of professionalism and service when enforcing codes and ordinances that impact the health, safety and welfare of our community.

Plano received the highest accreditation score, 190 out of 200, of any city to date!

Kerry Simpson, director of McKinney’s Code Services and the AACE sergeant at arms of code enforcement officially presented the award. She said, “It’s not an easy accreditation to achieve. Lots of paperwork is involved. Agencies must have great policies and procedures in place.” Accepting the plaque were:

Neighborhood Services Director Lori Schwarz
Property Standards Manager Scott Lussier
Property Standards Supervisor Scott Neumeyer

Both Lussier and Neumeyer were instrumental in AACE developing the code enforcement certification program. Simpson joked, “However, they were not allowed to score their own.”

Neighborhood Srvc Code Enforcement AwardIn addition, the Building Officials Association of Texas (BOAT) presented Neighborhood Services with the Excellence in Code Enforcement Award. This award recognizes our efforts to provide world-class service through certification, education and quality inspection processes.

Brett King, BOAT president, presented the trophy to Lori’s team. “As we drive through your city, we get to see all of the great things your staff is doing. We (BOAT officials) are in the same business, so we know when it’s ‘good’ and when it’s ‘not.’ Plano is doing a great job!” he said.

In resident satisfaction surveys, Plano Neighborhood Services scored 4.64 out of 5. This is awesome considering they are who King called “the NO people” – usually telling residents what isn’t allowed. Plano also ranked very high in volunteer compliance rate of 96%, that means only 4% of the people oppose the rules.

Fantastic job, to Schwarz and the entire department!
