Employee Appreciation Week (EAW) festivities began and ended with everyone having a great time. The annual employee picnic possessed all of the necessary elements – good people, good food and no ants! It's always a treat when old and new members of Team Plano have a chance to enjoy each other's company and rub elbows over free food.
Speaking of the food, a record number of people opted for the vegan burger option this year – like Erwin “Darnell” Hickson. He has worked in our Streets division for about 10 years. Darnell, whose father (Erwin Hickson, Sr.) also works for the City, has been on a healthier eating path for about two months. “Along with my workouts, I’ve lost over 20 pounds. I’m happy with the results,” he said.
Many of you turned in the daily crossword puzzles, word search sheets and scramble games. Having EAW events be virtual made participation numbers increase over previous years. Of the nearly 300 people registered for the TP5K and the top three runners are:
1st Place – Dan Chang, Police (00:20:18)2nd Place – Christopher Pruitt, Fire (00:20:46)3rd Place – Matt Sutphin, Fire (00:21:11)

Human Resources will distribute the new SERVE shirts once they arrive.
Senior Risk Analyst Tim Billingham said, “Thank you Team Plano for another incredible Employee Appreciation Week. This year had record participation with more than 280 participating in the TP5K and over 700 entries for the virtual games.” He also thanked Plano Event Center Executive Chef Bismark Quintanilla and staff for preparing the picnic fare.
If work or personal commitments prevented you from attending the picnic this year, YOU were missed. Here are photos of the TP5K and picnic; plus some of the breakfasts provided to shift workers at Parks & Recreation and the Plano Police Department.
“We (all of the EAW organizers) all greatly appreciate your participation and thank you for everything you do to make this truly a City of Excellence!
