The Texas Association of Convention & Visitor Bureaus (TACVB) honored Visit Plano’s Shane Sorenson with the first ever Catalyst Award. He was surprised with the gift during the organization’s annual conference held in Fort Worth. Shane is the Visit Plano Government & SMERF (Social, Military, Education, Religious and Fraternal) Sales Manager. As such, his primary role is to attract group meetings and conventions by presenting Plano as the premier destination for meetings in the social, military, educational, religious, fraternal and government sectors.
“We are so proud of Shane for receiving the first TACVB Catalyst Award,” said Visit Plano Director Mark Thompson. “This recognition honors Shane’s unyielding commitment to Visit Plano, TACVB and the tourism industry.” In fact, both Shane and Mark were guest presenters at last month’s conference; with Shane also serving as a discussion panel guest on the topic of “The Savvy Young Professional.” Mark taught a session called “Destination Marketing Principles.”
Shane joined Visit Plano in 2014 as the Convention Services Coordinator until his new appointment in 2016. Before that, he worked for the Wichita Falls Convention & Visitors Bureau. Other recent achievements include:
Visit Plano also walked away from the TACVB Conference with People’s Choice awards for Website Design, Convention Promotion, and Advertising in the conference’s Idea Fair.
“What an accomplishment to be recognized by our tourism industry peers for our major website updates this year including a new blog, updated dining page and live music page; for our new advertising campaign and for our convention promotion campaign said Millerann Moya, senior marketing specialist for Visit Plano.
