A Neighborly-hand Earned Emergency Management Honors

Carrie Little

Like in the old days, a call for help went out and Plano Department of Emergency Management (DEM) staff sprang into action. That call came from the City of Rowlett on December 26, 2015 in the aftermath of some devastating tornados. Plano DEM offered a much-needed hand during their crisis. Congratulations to DEM Director Carrie Reyes and her wonderful staff!

To thank the municipal agencies and first-responder groups in North Texas, Rowlett hosted a First Response Appreciation Gala recently. Plaques made from authentic tornado wood were presented to several groups honoring how selflessly Plano DEM and others helped area communities – in addition to our own residents. Rowlett spokesperson wished “the plaques to be something the cities will be proud to hang in their departments as a reminder of their kindness.”

The gala is to be an annual fundraising event with proceeds going to the Rowlett Strong Foundation, which supports regional police officers, firefighters and emergency management agencies that respond to calls for help.

Just like a good neighbor, Plano is there!
