Don't Skip the Skype for Business Training Videos

Skype conference meeting

Instant messaging (IM), video chat, conferencing and voice calls all rolled into one seamless communication system – that’s what Skype for Business is and more. Technology Services has plans to migrate the City’s current phone system over to the far more efficient Skype for Business within the next two months.

You’ve heard of and probably have used the free version of Skype at some point – video chatting with relatives and friends. Working with Skype for Business (S4B) will be a more comprehensive version that integrates the functions of your PC and your phone (BTW…everyone is getting a sleek new desk phone that is compatible with S4B). Skype for Business allows the user to:AltText

  • See if a person is available, in a meeting or presenting
  • Broadcast a meeting to a large audience, anywhere in the world – from your PC
  • Make voice and video calls
  • Select IM, call, video chat or schedule a meeting to start a conversation
  • Easily pull others into a chat
  • Works with programs (like WORD) so you can chat, call or join a meeting by clicking on a name
  • Share your screen or have others take control
  • Create online meetings in Outlook and have people join even if they don’t have S4B
  • Even record meeting in full HD

Technology Services planned a simple process of switching out the old phones for new ones and has scheduled hands-on training sessions about Skype for Business, if help is needed after everyone has watched the training videos.

Updates and videos related to the communication system migration will be posted on TeamPlano.us. Check regularly for the latest information.
