The Human Resources department offers an extensive catalog of training opportunities for all job types and levels. Here are some to consider:

Conflict Mediation

In this course, you’ll learn the process and goals of a good mediator – how to communicate clearly, promote reconciliation and how to make informed decisions that resolve issues. After completing the 40-hour course (five 8-hour sessions), participants earn certificates.

National Safety Council Defensive Driving Course    

This is an abbreviated yet engaging course reinforcing good driving skills and habits. This 4-hour course offers practical strategies to reduce collision-related injuries, fatalities and costs associated with motor vehicle crashes. The course is not for ticket dismissal or insurance premium credit. Participants will learn:

  • skills and techniques to avoid collisions
  • how to reduce traffic violations
  • when to change driver behind-the-wheel behaviors and attitudes
  • coping techniques for dealing with speeding, distracted driving, impaired driving, hazardous traffic conditions and more.

Participants earn a certificate from the National Safety Council by email.

Volunteer Management Training Series

Get to know all the ways volunteers can help your department at the Brown Bag Series, “VIP Campfire Conversations.” As a supervisor of the extra workers, you’ll learn about several aspects of managing volunteers. All classes are held at Haggard Library. Direct questions to Corina Sadler.

Harassment Prevention for Employees - State and Local Government Edition (mandatory 2018 training)

City Manager Bruce Glasscock’s required 2018 employee training focuses on prevention of sexual misconduct and harassment. The online course supports City Policy 219 (Harassment-Free Workplace), which has zero tolerance for any form of harassment. Learn how to recognize and prevent harassment. Along with the course, he asks you to review the updated Harassment-Free Workplace Policy. If you have questions, contact your direct supervisor or Human Resources.
