City Council Approves Financial Relief for Residents and Businesses

Grant fund relief for COVID

On May 11, City Council approved two amendments to allocate almost $1.5 million to help relieve financial strain caused by COVID-19. The U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and HOME Investment Partnerships Program funds are for:

  • $1,226,839 – CDBG Homelessness Prevention and Homeless Services for rental, mortgage and utility assistance, as well as rapid rehousing
  • $200,000 – CDBG Small Business Economic Development for small businesses with emphasis on employee retention

The Assistance Center of Collin County will oversee the application process and distribution of homelessness prevention funds. The City will work with nonprofits to provide homeless housing assistance and will manage the small business economic development program.

City Council also approved a resolution to authorize the filing of applications for U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development funds in an amount not to exceed $828,593 under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act.
