It takes a sturdy stomach to appreciate the complexities of a good bowl of chili, especially the way Team Plano does it. The Public Works Operations division celebrated winter with their first annual Chili Cook-off recently.
Thanks to the inspired efforts of the event’s planning committee, 18 home-cooks were given a platform to share their most secretly-guarded recipes with co-workers. The committee included: Henry Baker (utility operations superintendent), Josh Shultz (streets and drainage superintendent), Jeff Turner Jr. (traffic supervisor), Cindy Olvera (administrative assistant), Kim McFarland (senior administrative assistant), Joe Marsh (pumping facilities crew leader) and Abby Owens (strategic planning and compliance manager).
Winning pots were presented by these amateur chefs:

A panel of expert judges (self-proclaimed) – David Falls (public works operations manager), Brendon Lockette (asset management coordinator) and Mike Ellis (fleet manager) – determined winners in the “Best Overall” and “Spiciest” categories. The “People’s Choice” honor was chosen by everyone.
Rounding out the Cook-off, Henry “Pit-boss” Baker masterfully grilled over 500 hot dogs for his team’s enjoyment.
