Walk-Run-Walk into Shape for a 5K in No Time!

Did you set running a 5K or half marathon as a New Year’s resolution? Do you simply want to get into (or back into) shape? The City can help make those goals a reality with the Getting Started 5K and the Half Marathon Programs. 

Both programs use the Dallas Galloway Run/Walk/Run method for beginner or experienced runners to successfully complete races.

The Getting Started 5K program (March 14 – April 25)
The Getting Started 5K group meets in Plano near the Oak Point Nature and Retreat Center beginning Saturday, March 14. Saturday training sessions are 1-hour and you’ll receive a schedule for weekday training to do on your own. By April 25, you’ll be ready to run the Race to Brunch 5K at The Shops at Willow Bend.  Sign up for Getting Started 5K Training. Click YES to "Are you a member of Team Plano?"

Added bonus…The City will reimburse 100% of the 5K training program registration fee if you attend at least four of the six training sessions.

The Half Marathon program (May 30 – December 13)
Dallas Galloway’s half marathon program meets in Dallas on Mockingbird Lane. The group meets on Saturdays for supervised training and schedules are provide for weekday self-training.

  • At the first session, runners are sorted into pace groups based on abilities. There are six pace groups each with two Galloway leaders who provide additional coaching.
  • Participants must be able to run 3 miles at a 16-minute pace at the first session on May 30.
  • Runners receive training course support (water and electrolytes).
  • Training products (from anti-chafing creams to fueling products) are accessible.
