The North Texas Crime Prevention Association (NTCPA) recognized Plano Police Department’s (PPD) Liu Yuan.

Being named the 2019 Outstanding Crime Prevention Specialist of the Year is a first for her and was a total surprise. “I was at the NTCPA Banquet chatting and enjoying my lunch when I heard my name called for this award. It was a shock!” said Liu.

As a police community liaison, she has direct contact with local businesses, schools, hotels, civic groups and city departments doing business security evaluations for them. For Liu, the best part of the job is helping people in different ways. She gives active shooter building assessments that focus on how to use the building (your surroundings) and common sense to improve the chances for survival.

This Beijing, China native also gets to work with "some great detectives and officers." Before moving to the United States in 1992, Liu earned a degree in Modern World History, was a teacher and a scholar; and worked for the Chinese government.
