Take the Plunge into Couch to 5K Training

Couch to 5K

Did you set running a 5K as your New Year's resolution? Do you simply want to get into (or back into) shape? The City can help you make that goal by offering Couch to 5K, a fun training program. In just 7 weeks, you’ll go from ground-zero to completing your first 5K race. Join us for an information session on Friday, March 8 at noon in the Building Inspections Training Room, or join by Skype.

Couch to 5K uses an interval-training method perfected by 1972 Olympian Jeff Galloway. His method is centered on the walk-run, which reduces the impact running can have on the body. Galloway’s tactics help most people run farther and faster. There are tons of other benefits to adding a walk-to-race training.Couch to 5K 2018 group

If  you’d like to register for Couch to 5K right now, please click here and choose “YES” to the question, “Are you a member of #TeamPlano?” Here’s what you need to know:

  • Training period: March 30 – May 18
  • Training location: Oak Point Park and Nature Preserve
  • Training cost: $40**

**The City of Plano is happy to cover your registration fee for the Couch to 5K Training Program, plus pay your first race entry fee with the program! However, you must attend five out of seven training sessions to be reimbursed in full.
