Zig Ziglar said, “…workers have three prime needs: interesting work, recognition for a good job and knowing what’s going on in the company.” As a Team Plano member, you are the first and best ambassadors of the City of Plano’s brand – Excellent and Engaged. Our SERVE Team defines “Engaged” as “Committed to the organization and its mission, the people we work with and the people we serve.”
An engaged employee does not sit on the sidelines watching while their work-life simply happens around them. The word Engaged conjures images of an individual who is connected and involved. As the second of the SERVE (Stewardship Engaged Respectful Visionary Excellence) values implies, we’re each encouraged to participate and leave a positive thumbprint.
Needless to say, being engaged means actively interacting with both Team Plano members and our residents. With each encounter, everyone genuinely cares about providing outstanding services and valuing those we serve.
As we go through the next several weeks, you’ll be asked to share your personal definition of Engaged. In the meantime, watch these videos feature a couple of Team Plano members from the Environmental Health and Sustainability department (Rachel Patterson and Heather Merchant), answering the question “What does Engaged mean to you?”
In the immortal words of Captain Jean Luc Picard giving an order to hit warp speed, “Engage!” Let this deliberate Star Trek reference direct us to focus on how to actively show this SERVE value every day.
