The City’s Tuition Reimbursement program helped make Labor Maintenance Worker Herman E. Harris, Jr.’s lifelong desire a reality. Herman took advantage of Plano’s financial assistance to continue his education and he now has a bachelor’s degree in business and a certificate in project management!
“I really like my job, but I’m not the type to stay at an entry-level position forever,” he said. “I want to be a leader because I like helping people…it’s in my DNA.”

Herman is a native of Homer, LA (near Shreveport), who’s worked for the public works department for five years. He credits his wife JoNeka and his parents for encouraging and supporting his journey – which isn’t over yet. Herman plans to continue using the Tuition Reimbursement Program in 2019 when he begins the work to earn his master’s degree in business management.
