The Planning department is excited about getting kudos from the Texas Chapter of the American Planning Association (APA). October is National Community Planning Month which is made all the more special because of Plano receiving the APA honors for:
Planning Excellence Recognition and
Honorable Mention Award for their Zoning Case Response Map
APA spokesperson Ann Begley began by saying, “Planning excellence includes the training of planning commissioners, training and certification of staff; and particularly updates to your long-range, comprehensive, parks, thoroughfare and land-use plans. Congratulations to the City of Plano for being current on all these fronts and earning the Texas APA Planning Excellence award.”
The second of the Texas APA accolades to Plano was a response to a massive zoning case in the northwest quadrant of the City. Plano’s planners developed a GIS-based web platform to provide residents quick access to the correct information they needed. “It’s what a lot of cities need and the City of Plano is fortunate to have this response mechanism,” said Begley.
According the American Planning Association, “Planning helps create communities of lasting value.” We are one of those communities.
