Distracted Driver…Look Both Ways Before Crossing!

Distracted driver and pedestrian

Who gets distracted? We all lose our focus from time to time when things cross our path (SQUIRREL!). There’s so much stimuli competing for our attention or we become distracted at the wrong time (i.e. crossing the street or while driving). Distractions could have unforeseen and scary consequences.

Do you remember warnings from grown-ups when you were younger? They play like public service announcements (PSAs) in our heads:

  • “You’ll put your eye out…”
  • “Don’t eat the yellow snow…it is not lemon flavored…”
  • “Look both ways before crossing the street….”
  • “Put that phone down while driving…” (more relevant in the last few years rather than 20-30 years ago because rotary phones are not practical to carry around)

All are good warnings to remember. To help drive home a few of these alerts, the Team Plano Theater troupe produced PSA videos about the importance of staying Distracted Driver Jim Revis SMALLfocused when crossing the street and while driving.

In the spirit of great philosophers Smokey the Bear (“Only you can prevent forest fires!”) and McGruff the Crime Dog (“Take a bite out of crime!”), let’s remember both pedestrians and drivers are responsible for their own safety. Making the effort to stay focused will help avoid danger.

Like Sergeant Phil Esterhaus from Hill Street Blues says, “Let’s be careful out there”.
