Plano Named EPA WaterSense Promotional Partner of the Year

2018 WaterSense Award

Congrats to our staff, businesses and residents for their part in the City earning this sustainability award. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced Plano as a WaterSense Promotional Partner of the Year Award recipient. Staff members (Rachel Patterson – director, Environmental Health and Sustainability and Katie Masucci – Environmental Education & Outreach coordinator) received the award on October 4 at the WaterSmart Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada.

“The City is deeply honored to be named a WaterSense Partner of the Year and very grateful for the myriad of resources WaterSense provides its partners. We are firmly committed to water conservation. Congrats to my awesome team and big thanks to Katie Masucci (Environmental Education Coordinator) for submitting the award-winning application,” Rachel said.

In a nutshell, Plano effectively encouraged residents and businesses to reduce their water use by means of several successful conservation marketing campaigns and programs. The City was recognized for protecting the environment by creating and promoting WaterSense labeled fixtures, homes and programs that included:

  • Fix a Leak Week – a series of how-to-workshops
  • Live Green in Plano Newsletter – promoting water conservation tips, tools and products
  • WaterWise Landscape Tours – visits to water-smart and sustainable yards and gardens
  • WaterSense Toilet Rebate Program – a joint effort with Home Depot and Lowe’s
  • Distribution of WaterSense Products – WaterSense shower heads, faucet aerators, shower timers, toilet leak detection dye tablets, plumbing tape, rain gauges and more

An EPA representative remarked, “As North Texas communities continue to grow and thrive, water resources will become even more precious. Plano is leading the way in developing a culture of conservation among area residents.”

The winners were chosen from more than 1,900 WaterSense partners, including utilities, local governments, manufacturers, retailers, distributors, builders and other organizations.

Rachel added, “So proud to work with my Sustainability & Environmental Education Division team.”
